THE APRILIA RSV 4 “RACE MACHINE” IS UNVEILED FOR THE FIRST TIME

The Aprilia Superbike, the bike which from 2009 will bring the Noale based company back to four-stroke racing, has been unveiled for the first time during the Piaggio Group Convention in Milan.

After the success in the 2007 World Championships with Aprilia riders and bikes dominating the 125 and 250 classes (winning all four titles, a repeat of the 2006 performance), the Veneto company gave a preview of the eagerly awaited RSV 4 “Race Machine”.

An extraordinary preview to a privileged audience of more than 1,200 dealers attending the International Piaggio Group Convention.

Four cylinders, 1000 cc, power of well over 200 HP in the race version, the new bike due to make its road debut by the end of 2008 will mark Aprilia's return to the World Superbike Championship in the 2009 season.


The Aprilia RSV 4 is driven by the most revolutionary and powerful engine ever built by Aprilia. A four-cylinder one litre 65° V engine - a layout making it unique among all the world's production engines - in which the most sophisticated engine engineering is combined with top quality materials and the most advanced electronic control technology.

The Aprilia engine in fact uses integral ride-by-wire technology, opening up new frontiers in managing such a powerful engine, with almost infinite possibilities for controlling power output and traction.

Aprilia SMV 750 Dorsoduro - Aprilia celebrates a great 2007 full of victories (2 World titles in 250 GP, 2 World titles in 125 GP, the World Supermoto S2 Constructors' title) amazing its fans with another innovative design. The Aprilia 750 Dorsoduro motard has been conceived and developed on the basis of experience gained from the world's Aprilia-dominated GP and supermotard circuits. The Dorsoduro is powered by a 750 cc, 95hp, liquid cooled engine with a second generation ride-by-wire control system. This exciting new motorcycle combines power and agility, sports construction and essential design, and incorporates the best features of racing supersport and supermotard machines. A concentration of performance and technology capable of delivering riding pleasure and great fun, the Dorsoduro is a special, extreme and elite bike with the unique ability to elevate its rider to the level of a champion.

Aprilia RX and SX 125 - Aprilia is proud to announce the arrival of a 125 cc enduro and supermotard, packed with many of the advanced features that have made the RXV and SXV so amazingly successful. The RX and SX are dedicated to young riders in search of a bike with high performance and stunning looks. Powered by Aprilia's tate-of-the-art, liquid cooled 125 cc two stroke sports single, the RX and SX boast top quality components. The double cradle frame is enhanced by super-robust suspension. The RX is fitted with classic 21" and 18" enduro wheels for great action on all surfaces while the SX is fitted with 17" wheels and a spectacular 150/60 rear tyre for maximum grip under supermotard riding conditions.

When Aprilia first unveiled their new Shiver and its 750cc V-Twin, they hinted that there would soon be larger versions of the engine available. Here they provide further proof that they are serious about making their own engines by lodging a 1200cc version of the torque-pump in their carbon fiber FV2 1200 concept bike which was shown in Milan last week. Although the engine is production-probable, don't hold your breath for the rest of the concept, as the carbon chassis is likely very expensive to manufacture. Not only that, but appearing like a Confederate designed by KTM with all of their inherent sharp creases, it seems a little off-putting, although very attention-grabbing... perfect for a bike to be seen only on the show circuit. The front suspension is similar to the Hossack-designed system used on the new BMW K-Series of bikes and might look familiar to those of you who are used to seeing upper and lower A-arms on racing cars.

Despite the fact that the FV2 is likely just a means to show off their 1200cc V-Twin engine, we are not disappointed by it. We are glad to see Aprilia making their own engines are look forward to the liter-plus beasts to make it onto the street and into hooligan hands.
