HONDA MOTORCYCLE V4 Crosstourer Concept

Honda has revealed the V4 Crosstourer Concept, the world’s first V4 Adventure Tourer motorcycle at EICMA 2010, an International Bicycle and Motorcycle Exhibition in Milan, Italy.
Sharing the phenomenal V4 engine and the revolutionary Dual Clutch Transimission with the VFR1200F, the V4 Crosstourer Concept will deliver all the fun and excitement of a road sports bike; but with the comfortable upright riding position and manoeuvrability of an adventure machine.
The VFR1200F was the first model to utilise the new iconic V4 engine that signified the beginning of the new era in Honda’s engine line-up. The V4 Crosstourer Concept will utilise the same engine as the Road Sport category VFR to bring the benefits of this world-beating engine to a new type of customer. This will be the first time an Adventure Tourer bike has been fitted with a compact and powerful four cylinder V-engine unit.

The riding experience will be further enhanced with the V4 Crosstourer Concept being developed with the revolutionary Dual Clutch Transmission that gives seamless gear changes for a sport riding feel. The new bike is the second Honda to be fitted with this innovative transmission system after the VFR1200F and it is the first time this award-winning technology has been seen in this category.
Honda has always strived to bring innovative designs and innovative technology to our motorcycle customers. As a company famed for challenging conventional motorcycle thinking, Honda is committed to producing bikes which fulfil the needs and desires of our customers.
Together with 800cc Crossrunner also revealed at EICMA, the V4 Crosstourer concept expands Honda’s state-of-the-art V4 model line-up.

HONDA MOTORCYCLE VFR1200F

The New Mid Concept has been revealed today at Honda Press Conference at EICMA 2010, the International Bicycle and Motorcycle Exhibition in Milan, Italy.
Honda New Mid Concept reinvents the way we look at two wheeled travel. This concept combines innovative thinking and new technology to create a multi discipline machine.
Taking the spirit of a sports motorcycle and the comfort of a scooter into a totally new format, the New Mid Concept will offer the energetic riding sensation of a motorcycle but with the ease and convenience of a scooter. This sector shattering combination of features creates a bike that is both visually dynamic and enjoyable to ride.
The latest engine technology has been coupled with the advanced Dual Clutch Transmission technology up to now exclusively offered on the VFR1200F. Now Honda has committed to offer this technology to more of our customers, as it challenges decades of motorcycling convention and gives riders a unique sensation of seamless gear shifts.

Dual Clutch Transmission will give the rider the option of experiencing a pure riding experience, indulging in the thrill of the winding roads, or riding with ease when weaving through city traffic. In addition to giving a dynamic riding experience, this new transmission can also deliver fuel efficiency better than a conventional manual gearbox.
The foot-forward position will provide comfort for the rider and offer additional protection from weather.
The newly designed 17 inch wheels with PRO-LINK rear suspension add to the motorcycle look and enhance high speed stability and maneuverability with the optimum size radial tyres giving a sporty ride. The front fairing air vents coupled with the larger wheels will deliver greater stability when riding at higher speeds.
The New Mid Concept from Honda – challenging the way we travel.

Honda Motorcycle VFR1200F

“Revolutionary” is a buzzword that gets thrown around far too often, but I have to say that after riding Honda’s brand-new 2010 VFR1200F V-Four at the Sugo Circuit outside of Sendai, Japan, as well as on public roads nearby, this bike truly defines that expression.

Only 12 months after showing its V4 Concept model at the Intermot show in Germany in 2008, Honda has brought to market this radical new machine. Among its many innovative features and designs, the most exceptional is that it offers as an option the motorcycle industry’s first automatic dual-clutch transmission. Honda gave us the opportunity to ride the DCT and standard versions on the racetrack and on the street. Despite being identical motorcycles aside from their transmissions and related components, these bikes are completely different animals. If we were only discussing the standard model, we would say that Honda made some interesting technological changes to the VFR’s V-Four powerplant; but the DCTequipped model takes innovation to an entirely new level.

First, let’s get into the basic architecture shared by both models. At the core is a brand-new, liquid-cooled, 76-degree, 1237cc V-Four engine with CRF450R-inspired Unicam four-valve heads. The two front cylinders are located wide on the ends of the crankshaft while the rear two are side-byside closer to crank center. This combination allows the engine to be very narrow between the rider’s knees. No balance shaft is necessary as the crankshaft uses 28-degree-offset throws to allow perfect primary balance. Instead of trying to figure out how to equalize exhaust-header length between the front and rear cylinders, Honda’s engineers–led by project manager Yosuke
Hasegawa–decided to allow the two banks of cylinders to make their own unique power characteristics. According to Hasegawa-san, the combined effect is that of a paired set of parallel-Twins sharing a common crankshaft, the front two cylinders and their longer exhaust headers providing ample bottom-end torque and the rear pairing with much shorter headers producing good top-end power.

Power output is excellent. In fact, on the racetrack, the bike easily spun the sport-touring-oriented Dunlop rear tire exiting slower corners. Strong acceleration is available from as low as 4000 rpm, where Honda claims 90 percent of available torque is already present, and the engine pulls hard to its 10,000-rpm redline.

After the DCT or standard six-speed trans (with slippe clutch), both lead to a new shaft-drive system and singlesided swingarm, featuring a sliding CV joint to counter the changing arc of the rear wheel through its travel.
