APRILIA MOTORCYCLE MXV 450

All design solutions on the uncompromising MXV 450 have been dictated by the need to achieve the highest possible level of performance while extending the bike’s range of use. The under-seat exhaust, for example, features a brand new path for better motocross performance with more torque at lower revs.

Valve gear based on a single overhead cam and four titanium valves per cylinder gives the best possible compromise between compactness, light weight and performance. Thanks to its advanced technology the 45.2 engine is extremely civilized and silent running even in this motocross version, and complies easily with FIM rules for noise emissions (94 dB threshold).

The MXV 450 affords beautifully easy access for maintenance (plugs, oil filter, air filter), and boasts extended maintenance intervals, far above the average.

The engine has a dry sump lubrication system with the oil tank integrated inside the crankcase. Elimination of the external oil tank and its connecting pipes has led to a further reduction in weight.

The starter motor has been eliminated for the same reason. Starting is by kick-start only in order to minimize weight.

The salient specifications of the 45.2 engine on the new MXV:

o Electronic fuel injection.

o Dry sump lubrication with the oil tank integrated inside the crankcase. Separate lubrication for gearbox and engine to keep oil efficient for longer.

o Single overhead cam, titanium valves.

o Single-piece crankshaft.

o Cylinders integrated in crankcase, wet liners.

o Choice of “Big Bang” and “Screamer” ignition settings.

o “Hard/soft” mappings selectable from the handlebars.

o Electronic stepper motor idling control.

o Maximum engine speed 12,500 rpm.

CHASSIS: LIGHTER THAN EVER
The dimensions of the perimeter frame have been optimized for motocross use, and the entire frame has been developed to complement the engine. Its design is unique among motocross frames. A tubular steel trellis is interference fitted to pressed aluminum side plates to form a single structure. The engine also forms an integral part of the chassis, acting as a load-bearing element and contributing to exceptional overall rigidity.

Particular care has been taken over weight distribution. Weight has been centralized as far as possible to improve agility under all conditions.

Weight reduction (one of the most important aspects of any motocross bike) was central to the design of every part of the MXV, from disc brake to frame.

The swingarm has been designed for maximum lightness and elasticity and incorporates hydroformed members. The rising rate linkage system is damped by a fully adjustable Sachs racing monoshock with two damping settings for high and low speed riding.

The Marzocchi upside down fork has 50 mm stanchions and is also calibrated for motocross. The fork is fully adjustable, so that you can set up your own suspension action exactly as you want it.
The fuel tank has been redesigned to keep the bike’s centre of gravity as near as possible to the physical centre of the machine. Attention has also been given to eliminating protruding parts to reduce width and improve ergonomics.

The centralization of weight has also influenced the design of the filter box. The filter is now located at the front of the bike, leaving the fuel tank more space to extend back over the rear shock absorber.

The filter box also holds the throttle bodies and facilitates filter changing.
The ECU and all the components of the electrical system are also housed securely inside the filter box.

The exhaust system, under-seat silencer and twin tail pipes are made entirely from titanium (pipes and silencer).

The minimal electrical system is battery-less, and fully integrated inside the filter box. Engine and electrical system therefore form a single block.

The two-tone stepped seat helps the rider hold his position at all times.

BRAKES
The unrivalled technology and performance of the chassis is supported by a fantastic braking system. The MXV is equipped with Nissin floating calipers and super-lightweight wavy discs (270 mm at the front), for unrivalled braking control in even the most challenging conditions. A 240 mm rear disc with single piston Nissin caliper provides the perfect balance between stopping power and ease of control.

The concept that revolutionized the world of Supermoto has now engendered the Aprilia Dorsoduro 750. This unique, elite motorcycle applies all of Aprilia’s vast racing experience to just one mission: the offer of pure riding enjoyment. 92 HP and exclusive Tri-Map ride-by-wire technology mean that the lightweight and powerful Dorsoduro 750 can satisfy even the most expert riders in search of a state-of-the-art motorcycle.

Aprilia has certainly made its mark since entering the world of supermotard racing: 4 world titles since 2004 clearly demonstrate the superiority of the Aprilia off-road concept. Now Aprilia has taken its success story one step further with the Aprilia Dorsoduro 750, the machine that sets completely new standards for the road-going supermotard market.
The Dorsoduro is Aprilia’s first 750 cc supermotard, with a level of performance and equipment that places it in direct competition with far bigger machines. Unlike its more expensive rivals, however, the Dorsoduro gives you an unbeatable combination of performance and equipment for its price.

The Aprilia Dorsoduro is an ideal motorcycle for advanced riders in search of total performance. But thanks to its 750 cc engine, advanced electronic engine management system and selectable triple mapping, it also adapts perfectly to the needs of less experienced riders, and represents an intelligent access to the world of fun motorcycling.
The Dorsoduro is made for pure enjoyment, and creates a perfect symbiosis between man and machine, especially when ridden solo.

The Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 has been developed in close collaboration with Aprilia Racing (the department of Aprilia responsible for thirty-seven world titles in all, and five in 2007 alone, including four in Moto GP’s 125 and 250 cc classes and one in the Supermotard World Championship). The result is a bike that combines the best of supersport and supermoto racing technology. The Aprilia Dorsoduro gives you absolute riding pleasure and fun. A distillation of performance and technology, the Dorsoduro is a special, extreme, and elite motorcycle, capable of elevating its rider to motorcycling excellence.

The lightweight, agile, and powerful Dorsoduro is driven by a new generation of engine incorporating the most advanced technical solutions found on any bike of its kind. Thanks to advanced electronic engine management, Aprilia’s compact 90° V twin delivers superb performance, well beyond the reach of its rivals. Specific power is 92 HP at 8750 rpm and 60.48 ft lbs torque at only 4,500 rpm.

As you would expect from Aprilia, the chassis is unique in the supermotard segment. Having achieved amazing results on the super-specialist SXV, Aprilia’s mixed trellis and aluminium frame is now one of the most distinctive features of the Dorsoduro, giving it the sort of directional control, responsiveness and precision the competition cannot hope to achieve.
Despite its essential design, the Aprilia Dorsoduro boasts the highest level of components, technical equipment and finish. Four piston radial calipers, wave discs, a hydraulic wet clutch, adjustable front and rear suspension, Tri-Map ride-by-wire engine management and a Matrix instrument display with on-board computer are just some of the many items that make the Dorsoduro unique.

Let’s look at the features of the Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 in greater detail:

• 90° V twin engine with four-valve heads, double overhead cam and liquid cooling
• Tri-Map second generation ride-by-wire technology
• Electronic fuel injection with the latest generation injectors

• Three way catalytic converter with Lambda probe
• Modular steel trellis and aluminum alloy frame for extremely light weight and high torsional rigidity
• Aluminum alloy swingarm with laterally offset monoshock
• Fully adjustable 43 mm upside down fork
• Radial front brake calipers combined with 320 mm wave discs

DESIGN: CONCEIVED TO THRILL
The Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 is a concentration of pure technology enhanced by stunning lines and an aggressive look that comes not only from power and torque but from amazing agility too. Everything about this new Aprilia has been designed to be as light and effective as possible. The Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 is a motorcycle built to stimulate the senses of its rider.
The minimal and aggressive bodywork of the Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 adds the perfect finishing touches to the advanced motorcycle technology that forms the basis of its design. The Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 is built around the rider to deliver maximum riding thrills. That is why this radical, daring and sporting machine shuns everything that does not contribute effectively to maximum riding pleasure. Plastic body panels have been reduced to a minimum for this very reason. As with top competition machines, anything that does not improve performance has been eliminated. Only the place for a number has been left to emphasis the bike’s close ties with the world of racing. The middle of the bike, the area most important to rider movement under competitive riding conditions, shows just how compact this design really is. The Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 is incredibly slender and agile and enters into instant symbiosis with its rider. Only a few miles on this amazing machine are enough to feel completely at one with it. Aprilia’s design team have achieved this impressive result by giving the Dorsoduro a long, flat seat, derived directly from the world of racing, allowing the rider to find the most effective position at all times.

The sleek, compact tail houses a twinned exhaust, a solution that not only gives the bike a mean, aggressive look but also achieves perfect symmetry and ideal weight distribution. The hand guards are derived from those of the SXV supermotard and, despite their streamlined look, offer effective protection against accidental impacts with the control levers.

APRILIA’S 90° V TWIN: STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY
Aprilia’s 750 cc 90° V twin engine has been improved in a number of ways, through extensive bench testing and trials on roads and circuits all over the world. The engine development team at Noale has succeeded in shaping the character of this unique engine to precisely match the Dorsoduro’s extreme agility. Improvements have been made to various areas of the 749.9 cc engine with its bore and stroke of 92 x 56.4 mm. As a result the electronic and mechanical content of this V twin engine sets new standards not only for engines of this size but for many far larger units too.
The V twin engine that powers the Aprilia Dorsoduro incorporates the latest, most advanced technology:

• 90° V twin layout
• Liquid cooling
• Tri-Map engine management and ride-by-wire throttle control
• Very over-square bore to stroke ratio
• Four valves per cylinder
• Double overhead cam valve timing
• Electronic fuel injection with two throttle bodies
• Stick-coils integrated in the spark plug caps
• Three way catalytic converter and Lambda probe
• Hydraulically operated wet clutch

The fuel injection system uses micro-spray injectors for optimum burn, guaranteeing high power and extremely low emissions.

Aprilia was the first motorcycle manufacturer to believe in the potential of ride-by-wire electronic throttle control. This sophisticated technology, transferred to production directly from the world of racing, lets riders get the very best performance out of their motorcycles.

The electronic engine management on the Dorsoduro 750’s engine leads the field in technology and performance. The Dorsoduro features a second generation electronic throttle with Tri-Map selectable triple mapping.

Three performance modes, Sport, Touring and Rain, can be selected on the move from a switch on the handlebars (with the throttle closed for safety reasons). The Dorsoduro changes its character radically, depending on what mode you select. Sport mode gives you aggressive instant power; Touring mode gives you a smoother action, better suited to relaxed long distance riding; and Rain mode gives you ultimate safety slippery surfaces.

The Tri-Map electronic throttle also means smoother, more consistent power thanks to more accurate and precise throttle control based on parameters including engine speed, gear selection, air flow, throttle position and temperature. The V twin engine performs superbly at low and medium revs and even at partial throttle openings, situations typical of the sort of riding the Dorsoduro 750 supermotard is designed for.

Whatever mapping you select, the engine is always ready to deliver the best possible performance in terms of acceleration and rev range, giving you an amazingly satisfying and entertaining ride.

The exhaust is made entirely from stainless steel. The collector pipes meet in a single silencer under the seat before splitting again into two tail pipes. The large volume of the exhaust system also aids engine breathing and boosts efficiency.

A latest generation ECU manages all engine parameters, with a CAN (Controlled Area Network) line carrying all signals to an instrument cluster that incorporates a self-diagnostic terminal. Because the CAN line uses only two wires to transfer all the necessary data, the Dorsoduro’s electrical system is beautifully simple and a major factor in the bike’s impressively light weight.

Thanks to its advanced electronic and mechanical technology, the Aprilia V twin engine develops 92 HP at 8,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 60.48 ft. lbs. at 4,500 rpm. These figures enable the Dorsoduro to compete directly with motorcycles powered by far bigger engines.

FRAME: PERFECT BALANCE
Aprilia motorcycles have always been acclaimed for the excellent chassis designs. The Dorsoduro 750 is no exception, thanks to a chassis that makes it the best balanced and most effective bike of its type. The new Dorsoduro is easy and intuitive to ride despite its blistering performance. It is designed to be ridden at the limit under all conditions, to perform extreme power slides, and to blast out of bends under full power. The secret lies in an ultra-responsive chassis, whose ergonomics suit riders of all statures and allow you to “take it to the limit” and enjoy the thrills of a motorcycle built for pure entertainment.

The frame incorporates all of Aprilia’s vast racing experience, and makes full use of the latest mixed steel and aluminum designs derived from the world of Supermotard World Championship racing. The top half of the frame is a tubular steel trellis. This is secured to generous aluminum side members by special high strength bolts. The resulting structure is extremely rigid and lightweight, and provides the best possible means of harnessing the exuberant power of the Aprilia V90 engine while still communicating a strong impression of lightness, high technology and Italian style.

Continuous co-operation between engine and frame designers has led to the perfection of high-tech, performance-oriented solutions and to total integration between engine and frame. The intelligent design solutions applied to Aprilia’s V twin engine have made it shorter than ever, permitting the development of a rational and efficient frame and a superbly agile and incredibly responsive motorcycle.

The lateral position and acute angle of the rear monoshock has freed up the space needed to ensure optimum exhaust geometry without any increase in the bike’s overall length, and without subjecting the monoshock to thermal stress. The aluminum swingarm is robust enough to withstand the asymmetric stresses generated by the lateral positioning of the rear suspension. The swingarm has been specially developed to satisfy the needs of a supermotard like the Dorsoduro 750, and combines excellent torsional rigidity with the elasticity needed for precision under acceleration and intuitive control under changing conditions.

SUSPENSION: EFFECTIVE ON ALL SURFACES
Optimum suspension setup has always been one of the strong points of the Aprilia design and testing team. The 43 mm upside down fork features shell-cast bottom outers with radial calipers mountings, and offers adjustments for spring preload and rebound damping. This sophisticated fork offers a superb sliding action and a wheel travel of 160 mm in line with the latest trends in supermotard racing. Both yokes are forged, and the top yoke is also anodized to match the Dorsoduro’s high level of finish.

The laterally offset monoshock pivots directly on the swingarm in a cantilever configuration, and is also adjustable in spring preload and rebound damping. Rear wheel travel is 160 mm, again in keeping the requirements of a top level supermotard, on which effective, controlled long stroke suspension is a must.

BRAKES: RACING TECHNOLOGY
The Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 is equipped with the best braking technology currently available. The front brakes feature 4-piston radial calipers, state-of-the-art for the motard market. The lightweight, 320 mm wave discs ensure shorter than ever stopping distances. The bike’s aggressive stopping power is emphasized by the mean look of the braking system, in keeping with the Dorsoduro’s overall styling.

The rear brakes incorporate another wave disc, 240 mm in diameter this time, plus a single piston caliper. Both the front and rear brakes are fitted with aeronautical type metal braided brake lines to eliminate the sponginess associated with conventional rubber hoses and to deliver maximum braking precision.

COMPONENTS
Supermotards are always no-frills machines, and sometimes quite spartan. This, however, does not mean having to do without top quality components and attention to detail. Here too Aprilia stands apart from the competition by adopting a level of equipment worthy of a true market leader:

- Matrix instrumentation. The mixed analog/digital instrument cluster receives data over a CAN line and incorporates a memory that forms an integral part of the diagnostics system. The ultra-compact instruments feature a modern design and are extremely light in weight. All functions can be accessed and controlled from the handlebars. The LED backlighting is white in the analog area and red in the digital area, and can be adjusted to three levels of brightness.
- Dual taper anodized aluminum handlebars exactly like those fitted to Aprilia’s racing supermotards. This super-lightweight component is specially designed for optimum dynamic control.
- Hydraulically operated clutch for a consistently precise action and exceptional smoothness. The clutch is also self-adjusting and completely maintenance free.

DUCATI MOTORCYCLE 1098 R Bayliss

Troy Bayliss is a Ducati legend. In celebration of his victory in the 2008 World Superbike Championship aboard the 1098 R, and the end of a career that proudly claims three World Championships aboard three generations of Ducati Superbike, the factory have built a 1098 R Bayliss Limited Edition.

Enjoying exactly the same high specification as the standard 'R' model, the 1098 R Bayliss Limited Edition has a special colour scheme designed by Aldo Drudi and approved by Troy Bayliss himself. The livery, which was used during Troy's final race at Portimao in Portugal, incorporates the key colours of his success. Sporting the famous number '21' on the pearl white nose and side-fairing number plates, the red and white paint scheme uses the dark blue background of the Australian national flag to blend beautifully along the side of the bodywork and into the unpainted carbon fibre stripe along the seat unit. This attention to fine detail is also evident in features like the carbon lower-fairing finished in red, except for aerodynamic recess for the side-stand, which remains natural carbon fibre. A subtle '1098 R Bayliss Limited Edition' graphic on the tail fairing leaves no doubt as to what this magnificent bike is.

The striking design contrasts perfectly against the 5-spoke wheels finished in matte black and additional special features like the carbon fibre heat shield on the exhaust.

The 1098 R Bayliss Limited Edition will be limited to only 500 units and comes with a numbered plaque on the top fork clamp, indicating exactly where in the limited edition the motorcycle was built. The number also corresponds to a numbered commemorative desk-top plaque, beautifully encased for safe keeping and bearing the engraved signatures of Ducati Motor Holding CEO Gabriele Del Torchio and Ducati Corse triple World Superbike Champion, Troy Bayliss.

In addition, the model will be supplied with a full racing exhaust system including 102dB carbon fibre mufflers by Termignoni (strictly for track use only), a dedicated ECU, branded bike cover and rear paddock stand.

What better way to mark the incredible career of Troy Bayliss than by Ducati building the 1098 R Bayliss Limited Edition.

DUCATI MOTORCYCLE STREET FIGHTER

The Streetfighter S is the first naked sport bike equipped with competition-level traction control as standard equipment.

Accessible from the left-hand switchgear and displayed on the digital instrumentation, Ducati Traction Control (DTC) offers a choice of eight ‘sensitivity levels’, each one programmed with a wheel-spin tolerance matched to progressive riding levels of skill.

When activated, the system analyses front and rear wheel speeds to detect the level of wheel-spin, instantly evaluating the Streetfighter’s ‘dynamic situation’ before administering two types of interaction in varying amounts: ignition retardation and fuel injection cuts.

DTC understands exactly how the Streetfighter is being used. From slow mid-corner acceleration with serious lean angle to high speed corner exits while almost upright, the intelligent system reacts according to each and every situation, enhancing performance and maximising control.

BUELL MOTORCYCLE 1125CR

Introducing the new power-to-weight class leader, the Buell 1125CR. A fearsome blend of superbike performance, sinister styling and wicked attitude, it pushes the boundaries of the naked category. This 21st century, café racer combines a featherweight chassis with a dominating 1125cc liquid-cooled, V-Twin for powerful acceleration in any gear. Add to that its aggressive, sport riding position and precise handling and you’ve got an experience like no other.

Power
1125 Helicon Engine

A Buell exclusive, the powerful Buell Helicon® 1125cc, 72-degree, liquid-cooled, V-Twin engine.
1125cc

Most powerful Buell street engine to date. By not compromising to conform with a race class spec, 1125cc’s gives this engine the right bore and stroke combination to deliver superbike power: 146 Hp. and 82 ft/lbs of torque, with a redline of 10,500 RPM. The broad powerband and seamless torque curve generates hard and fast acceleration from anywhere on the RPM range.
72 degree V-Twin

The look, sound, and feel of a V-Twin engine deliver the character and superior ride experience you expect on a Buell. The 72-degree V-angle creates a compact, efficiently packaged engine and allows additional weight to be distributed to the front of the bike. It also allows for inclusion of an optimum downdraft fuel intake system, thereby lowering the height of the center of gravity as well.
103.3 mm Bore & 67.5 mm Stroke low inertia flywheel

A big bore, short stroke and light flywheel deliver complete power and quick-revving performance.
Finger-Follower Valve Lifters

The Buell Helicon motor's valves are actuated with finger followers and adjusted with shims. Derived from F-1 race technology, finger follower valve actuation reduces friction and permits a quicker valve opening due to reduced weight. Shim replacement is quick and easy due to the unique follower retention system.
Closed loop fuel injection system, DDFI3 EFI 61mm dual throttle bodies

Immediate throttle response in any environment is delivered by the Helicon motor’s closed loop FI system. It provides constant feedback to the ECU based on environment and ensures an efficient mixture control system, resulting in smoother throttle operation and better fuel economy. The 61mm dual throttle bodies allow for superior air intake and optimum engine performance.
Dual Overhead cams with self adjusting chain drive; 4 Valves

The single-cam-per-cylinder chain drive contributes to the engine’s compact design. The intake cam drive is driven by the chain while the exhaust cam is gear driven. It requires less space over the cylinder head than a three-sprocket design, reduces weight and allows the engine to be located in an optimum, forward position.
Magnesium Valve Covers

Durable and lightweight, the magnesium valve covers are another example of how Buell is able to keep the overall weight of the motorcycle extremely low.
Primary balancing with three internal shafts

The dry sump improves power by increasing efficiency, while the integrated oil reservoir at the lower left side of engine keeps the engine compact and fluids low, contributing to mass centralization.
Twin Side-Mounted Radiator Cowlings

Twin radiators are mounted longitudinally within aerodynamic cowlings. The position of the radiator system allows the engine to be positioned forward in the chassis, creating a more optimal weight distribution from front to rear. In addition, the position of the cowlings captures free-flowing air, driving airflow into the cowlings (and away from the rider), directing the air for more efficient engine cooling.
Dry Sump Oiling with integrated oil reservoir located in the lower crankcase

The dry sump improves power by increasing efficiency, while the integrated oil reservoir at the lower left side of engine keeps engine compact and fluids low, contributing to mass centralization.
Compensated Front Sprocket

By placing the compensation function in the transmission output sprocket rather than the wheel sprocket, unsprung weight is reduced, helping to improve handling.
Camshafts

The single-cam-per-cylinder chain-drive contributes to the engine’s compact design. The intake cam drive is driven by the chain while the exhaust cam is gear-driven. It requires less space over the cylinder head than a three-sprocket design, reduces weight and allows the engine to be located further forward.
6-Speed, close-ratio transmission

With lowered final-drive gearing for hard acceleration, the six-speed, close-ratio transmission provides the rider the right gear on any ride and any situation.
Oblique stacked transmission configuration

The Helicon powertrain stacks the primary and secondary drives to yield a more compact overall design. This increases front weight distribution to aid in anti-squat and improve suspension response. It also allows Buell engineers to design a forward placement of swing arm pivot, providing room for a longer swing arm and better overall handling.
Hydraulic Vacuum Assist (HVA) slipper -action clutch

The smooth clutch lever effort and slipper-like action mechanism reduces engine braking during hard deceleration and enhances the overall rider experience.
A 12 Liter Air box

The large, 12-liter airbox is designed to optimize air intake and accommodate a large, easy-to-service air filter.
Ram Air System

Using computational fluid dynamics to optimize the air flow, the RAM air system pressurizes the air box for a performance gain at speeds over 80 mph.

BUELL MOTORCYCLE Ulysses® Police XB12XP

Based on the versatile Buell Ulysses adventure sportbike, the Ulysses Police features long-travel suspension, generous ground clearance and aggressive tires that allow it to tackle roads too rough or narrow for confident travel in an automobile or on a traditional police motorcycle. On smooth pavement, the Ulysses Police is an agile sport motorcycle. The Ulysses Police can also accommodate a passenger. Available for order through Buell dealers as of Tuesday, May 27 2008, production of the 2009 Ulysses Police is scheduled to begin in August 2008.

Special features of the Ulysses Police include hard-shell top and side cases, each removable and lockable. The side cases are narrower than the standard Ulysses accessory side cases, allowing for more clearance in tight situations. On the Ulysses Police model, the Buell Triple Tail system functions as a luggage rack with tie-down hooks over the rear seat position, or as a cushioned passenger backrest with grab rails. A tall windshield, heated hand grips, and handlebar deflectors are also standard equipment. An available emergency response kit provides a siren and an LED lighting package in three different color configurations (Red/Blue, Red/Red, or Blue/Blue).

The Ulysses Police is powered by an air/oil/fan-cooled, fuel-injected Buell Thunderstorm 1203cc V-Twin engine that delivers 103 peak horsepower. This engine’s broad powerband and abundant torque gives the Ulysses the ability to proceed at lower speeds over uneven or unpaved roads with less gear shifting, and to deliver instant bursts of acceleration. The Ulysses Police has an EPA fuel mileage rating of 51 mpg urban/64 mpg highway*. A Veyance Hibrex final drive belt with Flexten Plus technology is durable and never needs adjustment or lubrication.

Premium Showa front and rear suspension is fully adjustable. Rear spring preload can be adjusted for passenger and gear weight simply by turning a dial located below the left side of the seat. Suspension travel is 6.5 inches in front and 6.4 inches at the rear. Ground clearance is 6.75 inches.

The Ulysses Police features a 4.4-gallon fuel reservoir integrated into the aluminum frame. The lower center of mass achieved by carrying fuel in the frame, rather than in a tank located high on top of the frame, enhances rider confidence on and off pavement. The muffler is located below the engine to further lower the center of gravity and centralize mass for improved handling in all situations. Low unsprung weight helps keep the tires in contact with uneven road surfaces for improved control. The 17-inch, six-spoke, reinforced cast-aluminum wheels feature a durable rim design, and Pirelli Scorpion Sync tires deliver good traction on paved and unpaved roads. A dual front fender system provides debris protection for the rider and the bike.

The Ulysses Police will be offered in two color choices: Birch White and Midnight Black.

2009 Moto Guzzi Motorcycle V7 Classic

In 1967, the motorcycle market reeled in shock at the appearance of the first Italian maxi motorcycle: Created by the legendary Giulio Cesare Carcano, the Moto Guzzi V7 marked the debut of the transverse V90 twin-cylinder 703 cc engine that set a record at that time. The V7 was enthusiastically acclaimed by the press and public. This success helped the worldwide promotion of Moto Guzzi’s image as manufacturers of an exclusive, elegant, comfortable and above all, highly reliable motorcycle.
For many people, owning a V7 was one of the most important things in their lives. It left them with unforgettable memories that reminded them of their younger days, of friends and of journeys made together and made that time perhaps one of the highest points in Moto Guzzi’s history. After a further forty years of success and, as part of Moto Guzzi’s worldwide relaunch project, the flame of creativity shines brightly once more in the new V7 Classic. The V7 has character to spare and is a superb interpretation of the fundamental beauty of the original V7 but this time incorporating all the latest technology that was unavailable to its predecessor.

The new machine is fully up-to-date with its equipment levels, frame engineering and 750cc Euro 3 engine. The V7 Classic brings to mind the late 60s with the line of the tank that nestles comfortably on the tubular frame and runs back to meet the saddle. This, in turn, is perfectly flat and blends in gracefully with the rear mudguard. The side panels house the same stowage compartments that so stylishly set off the side view of the original machine.

Times gone by can also be seen in the gleaming chrome finish on the exhaust system, the shock absorbers, rear light cluster, front headlight and comfortable handlebars. Just as on its predecessor, the wheels too are spoked and shod with high profile sports tyres. The instrument panel houses analogue dials with suitably “dated” graphics.

Although the V7 Classic is somewhat smaller than other Moto Guzzis, it is ideally suited for carrying pillion passengers with a comfortable saddle, convenient handholds and well positioned footpegs. The Classic is easy to ride, instinctive and creates a feeling of confidence right from the first time you climb aboard. The manageable size and excellent riding position are perfect for both town use and longer mixed journeys. Owners will no doubt have to answer countless questions from curious onlookers about the white machine they are riding when it looks just an original 1969 V 7 Special …

FEATURES:

The V7 Classic originally won the heart of the public with its essential beauty that was formed by simple straight lines embellished by chrome decorations. Inspired by Moto Guzzis from the 70s, the V7 Classic is a sort of hybrid of the various V7s. Some of it comes from the luxurious Special (1969) like its chrome and decorations and some from the Sport (1972) from which it takes its tank.

Other components that are symbols of a different era complete the picture like the spoked wheels, the cigar shaped silencers and the flat quilted saddle. The instruments resemble the famed white-faced Veglia Borletti ones from the past that now contrast so well with the new black colour scheme and gold graphics.

Ducati’s replacement for the Multistrada adventure-style motorcycle has been spotted testing in Italy.

The new bike is well advanced in to development – dealers have already been shown the sporty new model, which will completely replace the Pierre Terblanche-designed Multistrada 1100 next year.

The pictures show the bike is completely road-biased with wide sport tyres and a thick single-sided aluminium swingarm similar to the 1098.

Insiders who have seen the bike confirmed that the bike also has the Ducati 1098’s 1099cc engine, complete with Ducati’s DTC traction control system as debuted on the Streetfighter.

The bike will be unveiled at this year’s Milan show in November and available next year.
